On this day…



Charles Barry was born. He is best known for rebuilding the Palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament in the United Kingdom) after the great fire. After competing in a competition with 96 other architects entered, he won the project with the help of Pugin and his Tudor Gothic style was chosen to compliment the Henry Vii Lady Chapel. A major focus of his career was remodeling older country houses like Highclere Castle and Trentham Hall.
